West View Project - Adventurous Activities

West View Project is committed to making adventurous activities accessible to children and young people in Hartlepool. We are able to offer safe, stimulating and challenging adventurous activity projects to Hartlepool based schools and childrens groups at a lower cost than to groups based outside the town.

We are able to arrange all kinds of activity sessions, including fun days as rewards for children, longer courses that supplement in school learning, personal development courses for those facing some barriers to participating fully in school and individual days that can be linked to classroom activity.

In all activities with West View Project safety is paramount and we are holders of an Adventure Activities Licence and a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. All aspects of risk assessment, insurance and safety are taken care of, and our staff will work with you to ensure that each day is tailored for your groups needs rather than being an off the shelf activity session.

Some examples of the things that we can offer are below and will give a good overview of our services. More information can be found by looking on our website www.wvp.org.uk, by email westviewproject@btinternet.com or by phone on 01429 272699.

Forest Adventure Days:

The Gruffalo - Ideal for Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1

Based on the popular story book Children have a chance to walk into a natural 'deep dark wood' and can follow the same adventure the Little Brown Mouse did to different habitats on a search for their very own Gruffalo. The session will be led by one of our experienced staff and can be aimed at all abilities.

Available as a half-day session (perfect for younger children) or for the more adventurous an optional full day session is available that will include a chance to build the mouse a woodland home and use natural materials to create their own imaginary woodland creature.

Bear Hunt - Ideal for Early Years Foundation Stage and KS1.

Retrace the steps of the popular book as children face deep mud, cold water and other obstacles in their path accompanied by our experienced staff members. The session can be tailored to all abilities and can stretch the most adventurous children while making sure the more nervous ones are kept happy. Perfect as a split 1/2 day session with Nursery and Reception age children.

A Small World - Suitable for any age group.

Come and explore the places where small mammals, insects and birds live. Create minibeast hotels, to look for signs of wildlife and if we are quiet to possibly see and get close to some small mammals.

Available as a full or 1/2 day session

Shelter Building - Suitable for all.

Whether it is a miniature house for a fairy or small creature or a full sized shelter to hide us from the elements this session will help children to look at different ways of putting together a structure. Our experienced staff will support the young people to design and build their shelter and give them the freedom to be creative while ensuring everything is safe.

This session can be ether run as a half day, full day or 2 full days with an overnight experience.

Forest Explorers

It time to explore so let us slow down and take a closer look at what lives and breathes in the forest.

In this session the children will be guided round the forest by experienced and knowledgeable staff and take a closer look at the flora and fauna of the forest environment, there will also be opportunities for leaf and tree rubbing.

Mud Monsters- Suitable for all.

Getting muddy is an essential part of this session; children will go and find their own resources from the forest and then it time to get creative. Our staff will support children to develop their ideas and to be reall creative in designing scary or not so scary monsters from the mud.

This session runs over a half day.

Without a Plan (Early Years Foundation Stage –Key Stage 1)

Forest School learning in its purest form, these sessions are based on the founding principles of forest school work and compliment the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum especially well. Children will be accompanied into the woods by our experienced forest school staff that will be well equipped.

As children explore the staff will facilitate their learning experience based on what interests the children. A great opportunity for children to thrive in a new environment.

Wizards in Training  Key Stage 2.

This is an ideal session for all budding Harry Potters. The young people will have the opportunity to select the wood to make their own wands, identifying  which tree it has come from so that it true power can be unleashed during our duels. They will also have the opportunity to build their own brooms and see if they fly as well as the nimbus 2000 or the fire bolt.

This session can be built on by discussing the Latin names of some common plants.

Team Building Days at your school - (All equipment, 2 experienced staff members).

Suitable for a full class or spread out through the day for smaller groups.  Great for new classes getting to know each other or boosting the confidence of a group of young people.

Orienteering.

This curriculum linked activity can be arranged both on and off school sites, and is suitable for most ability levels.

Climbing Tower.

Our 6 metre Mobile Climbing Wall can be parked on any hard standing area at your school and in drier months can also be stood on grass.  Great as a fun activity for smaller groups or as a taster activity for lots of children.

Canoeing / Kayaking.

The venue for these activities is usually our watersport base at Hartlepool Marina, a day here can be as relaxed or as hard work as you wish and we can plan a day of activity to ensure the nervous and the adventurous in a group get something from the day. We are able to cater for both small and large groups, and can deliver paddle power courses over a series of days.

Sailing.

This is a great way to let your pupils find out a little more about sailing.  We have small dinghies and 2 traditional Devon Luggers, where children can learn about sailing and have lots of (slightly wet) fun.

Day Walks / Navigation Work.

We can tailor days for groups of children into the North Yorkshire Moors or exploring the countryside more locally, with experienced staff managing the session children can be given the opportunity to lead their walks and with a small amount of work in advance can also plan them.

Camping and Residential Work.

We can also deliver camping and residential activity work bespoke to your school’s needs. Please contact us for further details.

Staff Development.
