Hartlepool Youth Justice Service
Hartlepool Youth Justice Service
Hartlepool Youth Justice Service (YJS) was established in April 2000 following the introduction of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. It is a multi-agency service and is made up of representatives from Police, National Probation Service, Health and the Local Authority, overseen by the Youth Justice Service Manager.
Hartlepool Youth Justice Service has a statutory responsibility to work with young people aged 10-17. The partnership serves to assess, plan, support and manage young people at risk of offending, at risk of entering the youth justice system, on statutory orders from court, or on custodial sentences.
Performance is measured locally and nationally against 3 key Indicators:
*Prevention of Offending – Reductions in the numbers of First Time Entrants to the Criminal Justice System
*Reduce Reoffending – Reductions in overall reoffending rates and in frequency and seriousness
*Reduce the use of custody – Reductions in the numbers and duration of young people in the Secure Estate
Alongside the individual case management of young people, to manage and address their identified areas of offending-related risk and need, the Youth Justice Service will also engage with young people and their families, and with partner agencies, to improve a range of other outcomes for young people. These include: Education; Substance misuse; Social & Emotional wellbeing and Lifestyle. Work is delivered on a 1-1 basis, groupwork, or via positive or reparative activities within the local community.
All staff are qualified to work with young people, including qualified Social Workers, Probation Officers, Youth Workers and staff holding Youth Justice Certificates in Effective Practice.
