Maternity and Paternity Rights

Maternity and Paternity Rights

Maternity Leave

All employed pregnant women are entitled to 26 weeks of ordinary maternity leave regardless of how long they have worked for their employer.

Those who have worked for their employer for 26 weeks continuously by the beginning of the 14th week before the baby is due can take 26 weeks of additional maternity leave. Additional maternity leave starts immediately after ordinary maternity leave and is usually unpaid.

Maternity Rights At Work

If you are pregnant or have recently given birth you have a number of rights at work.

Paternity Leave

Fathers who qualify for paternity leave can take time off to be with their new child and offer support to the mother when the child arrives. You can choose whether to take one or two consecutive weeks’ paternity leave (not odd days).
