Changing Futures North East offer a range of service to Children, Young people and Families across Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and East Durham.

Moving On – Mediation, Children’s Work and Family Work

For Separated and Separating Families

Changing Futures North East’s free and heavily discounted services can help you reach an agreement on family issues and financial matters, and help you and your children move on from the difficulties of separation.

If you are separating or separated and live in or can travel to Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton or East Durham we can help. 

We’re here to listen to you and offer the help that suits your family. Ways we can support you include family work, Mediation (family and financial) and conflict resolution. We can also help your children through therapeutic group work, mentoring and counselling. 

The Charity’s experienced team includes mediators, adult and child therapists, youth workers, children’s workers and family support workers.

Children and Young People

Four services available in Hartlepool, access differs from service to service.

Mentoring

  • For children and young people aged 5-19.
  • Typically presenting with low self esteem, poor social skills, can have quite challenging behaviour in school, at home etc.
  • Volunteer mentors work with children to set targets and goals for changes they want to make in their life.
  • Considers how wider family needs can be met or supported with other agencies if no others are involved.
  • Curriculum of social awareness activities and topics that encourage development of emotional intelligence and emotional literacy.
  • Delivered either as one to one mentoring or group sessions with one to one time included.
  • Up to 12 months support.
  • Not counselling.
  • Sole contractor for Hartlepool Borough Council’s Early Intervention Strategy for Mentoring
  • Referral from agency only –
    • Social Care – Refer to Social Care Resource Panel
    • Preventions Teams Refer to First Contact and Support Hub

People may be able to access support without referral through Hartlepool Borough Council for a charge per session. 

Independent Visitors Scheme (IV)

  • For looked after children
  • Volunteer Independent Visitor befriends the child or young person and visits regularly (usually once a fortnight) to do activities the child or young person wants to do.
  • Provides support and appropriate advice, a listening ear and may feedback in care plan review meetings.
  • Looks to build a long term relationship that continues after leaving care.
  • Referral only from Social Care.

Volunteering

We have a range of opportunities for people to get involved with to help support Children and Families.  Volunteering can be a great way to gain valuable experience, meet new people and make a difference to people's lives.  Full accredited training and support is given.
